THAT OFFICE IN TRADA

Created by kevin 9 years ago
I first encountered Peter in a meeting at Richard Grafe factory in High Wycombe. It was the early 1980’s, and I was there as a (very) young glass sales rep, to discuss this weird thing called a fire test. As I had been selling reflective glass and glazing up until this point, fire was all alien to me. That was over 30 years ago, and a few pints and bottles of red have been consumed by me in the company of Peter. I have so many abiding memories of him. Late nights in hotel bars where we discussed the state of English sport, in particular the varying trials and tribulations of our rugby team, lunches at the Harrow pub where Peter and I, along with German colleagues, celebrated achieving successful results of fire tests relating to the Honk Kong and Shanghai bank project, and often appearing on the same stage to talk things passive fire. However, who can ever forget his desk at TRADA? I have never seen so many bits of paper, files, drawings, pens, pencils, photographs and reports……….. I used to love having meetings there. Working as I did at the time, for a big efficient, corporate organisation, where everything had to be duplicated, filed, and correctly presented, it was always a tonic to sit in such an easy and friendly environment. In recent years I have not seen Peter as often as I used to in days past. His work at IFC often took him into the courtroom to act as an expert witness using his extensive knowledge and experience to good effect. My acquisition of Mann McGowan meant that I finally had to take life a bit more seriously, and actually work for a living. For a few years we would meet every Christmas for lunch but sadly like some many traditions, pressure of work got in the way and these rather jolly affairs stopped. So I will raise a glass of red to Peter and think of those fun times, and my thoughts go out to Angy, and their family. Cheers Pete Kevin Hulin
